Sample has been sent to South Island NIWA by MAF for testing. Results were supposed to be available yesterday. No further official news at this stage other than unconfirmed rumour that it has proven to be a native algae.

Apparently there are a couple of other algaes that at certain life cycle stages have the similar appearances to didymo so fingers crossed its one of those. The algae was sent by a vigilent angler and he alerted MAF.

Cheers

Toby
