Hey guys,
something that has been bothering me for a while, is flycasting in Space. The theory is that in a vacuum a propagating loop will reach the speed of infinity - because of the Conservation of Momentum Principle applying to the top leg.

So what does this actually mean in reality? And what would happen if we held our next gathering in Space?
Cheers,
Paul :kungfo:

And a bloody long fly line as well. I don't think even the XXD has the length to perform that trick

If its moving, if you see a swirl, break, bait pop, a slick, cast ! We only get so many chances no matter what we do.Take them when you can.

Does drink really go down, up there?

I think that there is a measure of inertia in flycasting that we need to cast... If the flyline was just floating around before the first stroke, I think the rod-load would be fucked up, we would need to cast with boiled-spaghetti-rods to get real load...?

You could do it just with those two, no rocket required.
Especially if the seals fur was anything like the stuff I once got from a Jamaican chap in Slough :p :O

My understanding is that there is a speed limit out there, Paul.

That is the speed of light in a vaccuum.

What happens if you cast your loop at the speed of light towards a black hole?

The ultimate curve cast?

Would the longest carry still win?. Just think of the massive tangle, if a knot got caught in a ring it would yank you off your feet and send you spinning into space.

it's casting Jim, but not as we know it, according to EFFA

I don't think a graphite rod could survive a cast in space.
