Is it generally accepted that rainbows fight stronger and harder than browns?

My humble experience is that bows tend to be faster and more furious whilst browns tend to burrow and dig deep.

Both are fantastic fish of course of course of course  :p

Any views?

Charlie

Rainbows seem to freak out more when hooked.  They Jump and thrash like hell.  Where browns just seem to get angry and pull.  My 2 cents.

Browns around 30cm, before you know it, you're snagged in the grass. Crafty fuckers some of them.

I predict that this thread will soon digress into a discussion of "Favorite Trout", and why. :)

I think it depends on the size/weight.  You can't expect a 8-pound brown to jump like a 2-pound rainbow.  In many places (here) they tend to occupy different places in the river, so the fight differs accordingly.  Also depends on the time of the year.  IMHO, I'd say they fight different.  I love'em both...

Blues seem to go quite hard

I am told that a trouts heart only gets so big. Once its heart gets to maximum size the body keeps going and the heart stays the same size.

Have you heard this before?

I do believe this is as much to do with the Trouts ability to carry oxygen than a maximum heart size?

Browns fight differently depending on the environment too.

Cold, fast water, lots of dissolved oxygen = hot runs, jumps, and bulldog. (Review "the man and his fish" if you forgot)

Warm, murky water, slow current, low dissolved ozygen = slow, down and dirt fight

Rainbows rarely live in the latter environments.

Hey Matt, Do you have any ranges for Dissolved Oxygen? The Geologic Survey provide this on their website, but I don't know what numbers relate to behavior.Link here. Rich
