not at ten to midnight after guinness, this is a respectable establishment.
"who would win in a race, a really ill cheetah or a spritely cow" does not constitute great FF conversation.

that said, ive got a few more ideas, i'll write them up and ship them off to you if youd like?

Aahh, I would go to the rivers of Norway in the 19th century, absolutely crowded with salmon and seatrout. I would battle 50 pd. + salmon, and catch huge seatrout on classic dries.

On a more far fetched note, back to old Macedonia, to witness (one of) the birth (s) of flyfishing.

Cheers,
Walden

cool topic. and one i thought about a few times on my own.
of course, like matt, one may dream about the big names in ff. the chances to join hemingway, ritz, grey, gierach and arden in their prime on then untouched rivers. What was the fishing like in NZ in the 1960's for example?
But when thinking about a time machine and flyfishing, i mostly think about my not so famous, not so picturesque home waters here in nothern germany. how has the fishing been here in the 1950's? the 1920? in the 19th century or even in the middle ages? what was the true potential of these rivers in the times of virgin forrests and pre industrial revolution? thats what i would like to know, thats what i think about when i walk along the banks of these streams that are full of stocked fish, inhabit less and less insect life and are slowly fading away. I would be kind of scared to jump into a time machine and have a look at these waters in the year 2050.

Lukas

I only hope that the time machine is big enough to take my helicopter too...  That way i'll be able to access all of those 1930's NZ rivers where there are no trout under 10 pounds, because all the 18-20 lbers have eaten them all...

Would we have to fish with the gear of the day too?

Neil, let's hope the machine stops at the right time and doesn't slide back a couple of years. Take a box with galaxid and smelt flies, just in case.
