Re: Structuring multiple lessons

I don’t see why me having the odd very very mild reaction to a blank should prompt this kind of mockery. 😠

Re: Structuring multiple lessons

The bread and butter teaching for me was stillwater anglers... I was teaching one yesterday...now he can cast 60' with a haul...easy, which is a massive step forwards for him. No miminy piminy stream stuff wanted and none taught. On Saturday it will be all short range presentation casts. It's Goyas...

Re: Structuring multiple lessons

That’s up to them innit ? It’s their justification for not doing whatever you’re doing. What is more interesting is how much of a motivation that kind of criticism is for competition casters to try to justify whatever their doing using the fishing frame of reference applied by the critics. Who cares...

Re: Structuring multiple lessons

The definition of better is “more desirable, satisfactory, or effective:”. If we don’t know what that is then I don’t know why they are coming for a lesson! I think there’s the basis for a thread on motivation right there. I think everyone coming for a lesson wants to get better at doing something ...

Re: Structuring multiple lessons

I usually have someone working at targets pretty early, not usually straight away but I think John had a point when he said the objective is to get the fly into the desired area. I think there are quite a lot of ways to do this. So, if the basic underpinning principle of a lesson or sequence of less...

Re: Structuring multiple lessons

Distance casting goes “Target, Rod, Loop.. Target, Rod, Loop”. Most people don’t have a target, this I’ll agree with!! I’ll agree with this too 🙂. Most commonly the most desirable target is real….something tangible, something you can see to aim at. This is completely consistent with good cueing whi...

Re: Structuring multiple lessons

Personally I would be teaching in a position where they could choose to look if they wanted. For all the reasons I’ve explained before I avoid a blind position for teaching purposes. Particularly if this is the old hard way position a caster was originally taught in…I’m not going to take them back t...

Re: Structuring multiple lessons

if you have someone who has gone the hard way around and learned to cast loops by not watching them, then turning to watch them puts their body out of position. They are not using the 45 degree or more shoulder alignment to watch their loops and have to learn it, just as those casting 45 degrees al...

Re: Structuring multiple lessons

I admit I teach and practice looking at the back cast... while practicing. When fishing, I advise to never take eyes off of the target, I don’t think you have to “admit” anything Gary, this is in line with good teaching practice and a calculation that the advantages of looking are outweighed by the...
