Re: Belgian / Gebetsroither / Continuous Tenion

William van der Vorst gave us a history lesson on this cast a few years ago and as I recall it goes something like this. It was Charles Ritz who first observed it being used by Hans Goebestroiter at a lodge on the river Traun in Austria, and as a very keen student of fly casting he noted it as being...

Re: Belgian / Gebetsroither / Continuous Tenion

Carol if the fly leg is UNDER the rod leg, is climbing, and you accelerate through the first of the "circle up", then slow down as you reach the top it will kick up. Clearly there is a timing to this. I use this cast a great deal for heavy flies so this also helps with the kick up as they have that ...

Re: Loading (again) in Roll CASTING/Spey CASTING

I remember a couple of years ago numbers 2, 6 and 8 needing to be used on one fish. We were in a flats boat on a howling windy day drifting across a flat and blue barstool showed up at 4 o'clock only 30 feet out. Impossible for the guy at the back of the boat to do a back cast because the boat was i...

Re: Loading (again) in Roll CASTING/Spey CASTING

All the roll casting is used( by the book) where there is limited space behind our back That's about number 8 on my list of roll casting priorities when I teach it, and when I use it. 1. To remove slack. 2. Windy day cast. 3. Roll cast pick up. 4. Fundamental Spey move 5. Getting a fly off a snag. ...

Re: 180 "tails".

But Dirk isn't that the consequence of changing the plane?
