Re: Struggling

Hi Gary, What holds most people back in distance is their backcast. It’s either not straight, or it’s open and the power has been applied through the stroke and not nearer the end with delayed rotation. To cast another ten feet in front you probably need to carry another ~7’ behind (assuming a full ...

Re: Structuring multiple lessons

It sounds awesome to me. I love sight fishing shots. Big fish, tropical climates, feeding the fish. The vast majority of my students come to me because they have a similar challenge and are driven to make shots. If you are going to drop 10K on a destination trip then you want to be putting the shots...

Re: Reel seats and gravity

I don’t fish the DHD yet, although I have one to be built. My question is are there other considerations as in where to put the weight of the reel for best performance?

Hi Gary,

I’ll answer tomorrow. Have to be up in 6 hrs. I’ll see if I can explain my thoughts on this afterwards!

Cheers, Paul

Re: Structuring multiple lessons

No no. He’s on the bow end of a boat casting in towards a cliff. There is a ledge and permit are there, heads down, tails up. It’s an 80’ shot with a weighted crab on a sink tip line. Wind can be any which way. The front of the boat is moving up and down. For me that means you have to be a 110-115’ ...

Re: Structuring multiple lessons

Part one I don’t think they do. I don't think they do either...in fact I think it would be massively unlikely in all but the most exceptional of circumstances. Effort is very rarely, if ever, front and foremost in the minds of most casters I've ever taught. It is certainly a concern for instructors...

Re: Structuring multiple lessons

I was yanking your chain Paul, we have evolutionary adaptions that enhance our ability to throw. It is like walking, a learned not a natural skill :) Do you think marathon runners would make good casters? regards Vince It works for me! Charlie Jardine runs marathons too. So you might be on to somet...

Re: Structuring multiple lessons

I think the main reason people get “stuck” at 75’ is because they are not utilising the kinetic chain. Do you think that it is a gentic issue with these people, given that we naturally evolved to throw? ;) I think we evolved to throw but very few people are good at it. It’s not a honed skill unless...

Re: Structuring multiple lessons

I have a couple of questions for you now….because we’re in the teaching section. How would a caster independently discover relaxed control over the wrist as a solution for excess effort ? Do you remember a presentation on white bear theory? SL meet on the Annan. Part one I don’t think they do. I th...
