Re: Structuring multiple lessons
As you know, it’s a practice that sets my teeth on edge. An understanding of Fitts Law and the resultant speed accuracy trade off would make it obvious that a short stroke to achieve high line speed is bound to end causing significant force application problems for a learner. Anyone that has tried ...

Re: Line configuration affect on rod
Sorry, let me explain my understanding of that, John. I don’t mean a soft rod, I mean a rod that is softer than a rigid lever. Ie one that bends. A very soft rod might prevent us putting in as much force because we run out of rotation angle. In the case of casting a bendy vs rigid lever within a giv...

Re: OK... Rod configuration effect on the line?
Hi Gary, Can’t you do them all with a rigid rod? Cheers, Paul Hi Paul, Can you? Cheers, Gary Yes of course. It’s not very much fun using a poker, but absolutely. I think they all come down to tip path, line configuration at the beginning of the stroke, and perhaps a little bit of loop morphing. Rod...

Re: Line configuration affect on rod
I think Gordy explained it quite well a few years ago, that the softer rod allows us to put more force in (to a given arc). This in turn alters our feeling of weight. His calculations at the time were that a flexible rod compared to a broomstick allowed us to double the amount of force we can input....

Re: Structuring multiple lessons
Well yes and no. My teaching has changed a lot since the App. While my first lesson or two has always been about loop control and namely short line loop control, particularly after Lee introduced his Triangle Method, it’s really been the past 5 years that I’ve overhauled my approach, and I’m very th...
