Re: Power pro braid fails

The fact that some of the claims of fluorocarbon are obviously misleading at best makes me question abrasion resistance. https://youtu.be/KiQTvmM-1cY I think it’s marketing. What do anglers think they would like from leader and tippet material? Invisibility, sinks well, high knot strength, better ab...

Re: Spooling

I’ve always applied the tension to the line with the fingers just prior to the spool. Pencil or screwdriver between the knees. The truck aeriel makes a good alternative if it’s still there. Are there books on French Nymphing? I’d like to see a book about how to hold fish without looking like you hav...

Re: Line configuration affect on rod

Hi George, That’s a great sequence!! As we can see the rod tip travel during the casting stroke is approximately the same as the length of line outside the rod tip. With Lasse he has considerably longer line and in his case we can observe the effect of a small dangle with the line dipping below the ...

Re: Power pro braid fails

Hi Lou, I never use Fluorocarbon. I don’t even think we should be making the stuff. It supposedly takes thousands of years to degrade. I’ve found it has less knot strength than mono and despite the marketing I can see it in water. It sinks quicker than monofilament, which may sometimes be an advanta...

Re: Line configuration affect on rod

I suspect 99% of the guys casting a fly rod have no concept of the need to get the line ‘positioned right’, nor even what ‘right’ entails. It is just not emphasized (at least from what I’ve seen/read) as an essential concept. It seems, rather, that instruction is aimed at making it happen indirectl...

Re: Line configuration affect on rod

Hi George, Yep it’s unfortunate that we are working using our “photogenic” memories. What I remember was a shortish line (certainly not a long carry like Lasse’s above). Most of the line was redirected during the casting stroke by the rod tip. I seem to remember saying at the time, that if the line ...

Re: Line configuration affect on rod

Hi George, I’ll have to think about that but I don’t see why it has to match gravity. The line comes around the corner and it’s all subject to gravity. You can do the same thing in the horizontal plane; for example false cast horizontal to the bank and change direction across the river on the delive...
