Re: Torque Twist

Torque Twist is the same Paul that I wrote about with various thrust like the pic you included. Lots of cool stuff can come out these things types thrust. Especially using extreme supination & pronation. I think Joe Mulson put some of those in the loop called the Mulson wind cast in the late 90s...

Pullback, Counterflex and Loop Size

Forcing bend out of rod is accurate because pullback actually puts an S shape into the rod.
This "S" shape should minimize counter flex and really add nitrous to loop speed.
Common for elite distance roll casters to make use of S shape on every cast.

Is the cast itself a transverse wave?

I think it would depend on who is the caster for a specific cast! The transverse wave has to have perpendicular right angled waves propagating down the line. So with really good fly casters that match power application and have excellent tracking, I doubt there is much of a right-angled component in...

Changing rod plane during cast

That is how we taught the curves most common at the university programs (horizontal loop planes) in the early 90's. They work well for sure but you can achieve them easily with the other 3 mentioned. Using snaps, circles, etc... all fall back into transverse wave stuff and those loops can be in any ...

Changing rod plane during cast

The MCI test still has curve cast. This can be a cinch with a vertical rod plane and a loop plane perpendicular (off to the side), use of transverse waves (right angle waves for the curve), altering of tension by drift and fade moves, or horizontal rod plane with the loop plane parallel. They are al...

Changing rod plane during cast

Hello Lou, The use of changing loop planes from rod planes is more to do with avoiding obstacles and overall layout for "drift" (curves and piles). Use it all the time in single and double handed spey as well. It will take decades more to become common place I believe because it goes again...

Defining Horizontal Plane

Paul, wish you were out here on the Yellowstone with us! We drove 35 hours a few days ago to come torture finned creatures on the spring creeks! George Forster and Morsie made it over from OZ. I think when I met you was the last time I was out here. Work, kids, and other trips have got in the way I ...

Defining Horizontal Plane

Correct Lou. Loop plane changes when you deviate from straight rod path. Generally speaking, the only time the loop plane is in line with the rod plane is when you track a straight rod path. Since most of the hugla boola over the years has been engrained with lengthy sermons advocating straight rod ...

Defining Horizontal Plane

Lou, Just play around with slight curved rod paths for controlling loop planes all over. The opportunities become vast in a hurry for presentation casts. Have fun with it! Traditional casters and even big club mantras frowned upon this for a long time here in the states but it is becoming more commo...
