Line for smallish river

The infamous barstool lines. A.I.R.F.L.O. :666: Wonder if that will pass through censorship (sorry Paul, didn't know how else to communicate it!). Like I said though, I think the Gold would match the rod beautifully. Since I had my 4wt built I pretty much haven't picked up my 6wt.

Line for smallish river

I have that exact same model rod. Don't overline it. It's a very versatile rod that doesn't struggle in close. I have it matched with an barstool (outlawed here, I know) explorer or ego. It matches well, but I think it would be equally good with a rio gold. The rod bullies big fish btw...Your friend...

First timer in New Zealand.

It has been a bit of a topsy turvy season. Can't honestly say we've had much settled weather, but that hasn't prevented some fantastic fish from being caught. The West Coast is ALWAYS wet (well, it gets a lot of rain anyway). Prevailing weather patterns over here are dictated by the Southern Alps th...

First timer in New Zealand.

Just so you know, John, weather is always an issue in New Zealand. You need to be prepared to be flexible and to cover some ground to get the best out of our fishing. Regards tippet strength, unless I am fishing for fish that I know to be relatively small I will rarely go below 4x (6lb) tippet. 5x w...

Beer - Redux

No worries, Andrew. Feel free to ask any questions you need. I'm still learning a whole heap about brewing, so any questions you ask will probably help me to learn too! And just enjoy the process. It should be fun. And extremely satisfying once you get that first taste of something you made. One oth...

Beer - Redux

You could conceivably make 'beer' out of a lot of different things (and people do, to cater for coeliacs etc), but really it's malted grains like barley, wheat and occasionally oats. I've no experience of the actual kilning process as my grains arrive in big old sacks. I really like the idea of bein...

Beer - Redux

The best thing you can do ennio is to put your feelers out and see if any of your extended friends are into it. You'll learn a lot from watching them brew. My flatmate has a really good recipe book that I believe has basic method in it too. But with regards to the method you're probably best searchi...

Beer - Redux

More the result of an excessive June! The highlight of which was 40 new beers in one week, plus countless double ups. Lets just say I needed a break for the good of my liver.
