Re: Cortland long belly distance line

Just started weighing a few of my lines using Nicks method (thanks mate). My Cortland long belly distance 6 averaged at 11.78g or 181.79 grains, or in other words a true 7 in the grains 'range'. I knew it felt heavier than a MED6 or SA trout 6 which I usually fish with (and they measured bang on..) ...

Re: Mike's manshit

Hi mate, I agree with Ron! A boat is a tool in my opinion too, and a boat had always been an important part of fly fishing for me! Aluminum boats are also easily customizable, where as a glass boat your more or less set with the design of the hull mold. But everyone has their own preferences. One bi...

Re: Decline in Flyfishing

Hi, I think fly fishing is on a evan keel in NZ. I started over 20 years ago now, and havnt seen a dramatic change one way or the other. Fly fishing club membership seams to be down across the board here, but it's not just fishing clubs that have experienced that since the tech age really took off i...

Re: How do you like your butts?

Hi,
9ft 6wts are my primary rods. I can't say I have a preference. Although, the fighting butt is useful for delivering on the back cast - I find it can just help firm and straighten things up ( I can really dial up the force) which otherwise can be an awkward movement.
Cheers!

Re: Fullers earth sinkant paste

Great FP from Martyn, I've always used the commercial stuff, but would like to experiment with roll your own for differences in effectiveness with consistency etc.

Cheers!

Re: The Social Dilemma (Netflix)

Hi Tom, Sexyloops pre-dates both. We were September ‘98. Actually Google was the same month I’ve just read! But they were just another search engine back then whereas we were one of very few flyfishing publications and only one of two flycasting sites! I assume they had an algorithm that checked ho...

The Social Dilemma (Netflix)

I've struggled with the whole dam thing long before I watched the documentary. Mainly being a puppet for Google & FB (& whoever else) , the time it steels away from our lives, the addictiveness, the bollocks algerithms, and generally the crap that we subconsciously lap up. There's more, but ...

Re: Poly leader for dry fly

That's a much smoother connection for sure, although I have had on fail on me - must have created a weak point at the end of the fly line loop. Admittedly, the leader had been on for a very long time, and must have been under a fair bit of stress. I just got into the habit of nail knotting after tha...

Re: Poly leader for dry fly

Hi Bendix. Poly leaders are not the norm in NZ, but (experienced) guys do use them - primarily to make casting a 18-22ft leader (inc poly leader) 'easier' into a howling NW South Island wind. Horses for courses. Ive never had a problem turning over a standard tapered leader with a long mid and tippe...
