Two separate questions here

Don't know about the hooks but have used permanent markers a lot for tying thread and foam, seems to work fine. Keeps it simple to use one color (white) and color it to suit. Pentel are supposed to be some of the best, mostly though I use cheaper ones an they work fine. :)

Future of Fly Rods?

Interesting fact.. 1910, Casting Club de France competition, J.J. Hardy won his class (accuracy) with a 25yd cast, this with a 7ft bamboo rod and silk line. Wonder what he might have cast had he designed a rod for distance... :)

Longer equals more accurate??! What do you mean "accurate"? Have ya tried to throw pike flies to tight spots with a 14 footer?! ...or I'm missing something...ah, it's just a language-thang fosho... hi, see, this is where I have problems, 30 odd years ago I used to fish the Thames and other rivers i...

Future of Fly Rods?

thanks guys :) interesting, Ah... forgot about the loops thing, can understand that and forget about 14ft beachcaster throwing further than a 10ft, different horses. So, what would you think would be best length/action rod of 4-6wt for accurate casting at, say, 15-25 yds in fair conditions and what ...

Future of Fly Rods?

:) Have never had any kind of coaching, learned to cast with cane xx years ago, then a glass rod that needed a piece of grass slid in the ferrule to stop the top flying after the fly. Picked up fly fishing again 10 years ago and all was new and shiny and light... Most likely all to do with (lack of)...

Future of Fly Rods?

New ultra light ultra strong materials could allow, for example, a 16 ft 4wt.... I'm not very techy but it seems tip speed... (therefore line speed? ) on something that long should be far higher than say, an 11ft. Not a way to go?? New technology can't overcome physics. The longer the lever the mor...

Coffee

Woo hoo, thankyou Jerome, it won't turn to powder on the boat, :) Ally ones are good, but... stop for coffee, nice fire going and pot on, fish moving so rod grabbed, brain now goes 'fish fish fish' time passes pot melts.
