Hi Nick, I agree with Thomas 100%. Go for it. If you can tie flys you can build a rod. Don't confine yourself to Sage for your first attempt. My first project was an Epic build your own kit. Will have to work on my footwork. Always play good trout on the reel in a boat after losing a real good one due to standing on the line.Still pains me many years later. Thanks Paul.

Thanks Mangrove and Queenfish, that makes perfect sense. think I may have misinterpreted what the guide was trying to tell me. Handlining gently at the start wouldn't achieve much. What a fish . Any recommendations ? Welded loops are good to over 25lbs and you can reinforce them with 10lb mono if you want....

Single strand gel spun can sometimes cut through fly lin I was thinking about this. Would stripping the flyline down to the core before making the loop be over the top. This is my first tropical saltwater trip so my imagination is running riot :yeahhh: Has anyone ever lost a flyline ?? ...............
