Re: Has anyone built there own Sage rod?
Hi Nick, I agree with Thomas 100%. Go for it. If you can tie flys you can build a rod. Don't confine yourself to Sage for your first attempt. My first project was an Epic build your own kit. Very nice blanks and components and most importantly a great manual to guide you through the build. There are ...

Thanks Mangrove and Queenfish, that makes perfect sense. think I may have misinterpreted what the guide was trying to tell me. Handlining gently at the start wouldn't achieve much. What a fish . Trout season has just opened here , seems a bit tame now. Problem is, this could become an expensive obse...

What can you do to hang on to these fish? This is the scenario. Years and years of trout fishing behind me I convince my dubious wife that it would be a good idea to go to Mexico for some Winter sunshine. There's Mayan Ruins , great beaches, and "oh yea I've booked two days fishing with a guide...

Backing to Flyline
https://www.fishingmegastore.com/fly-lines/rio-flats-pro-floating~42821.html Was thinking of an 8WT one of these. Hell of a price though. Probably don't need the latest for a first trip . Any recommendations ? Welded loops are good to over 25lbs and you can reinforce them with 10lb mono if you want....

Backing to Flyline
Single strand gel spun can sometimes cut through fly lin I was thinking about this. Would stripping the flyline down to the core before making the loop be over the top. This is my first tropical saltwater trip so my imagination is running riot :yeahhh: Has anyone ever lost a flyline ?? ...............
