Barbless hooks

I would be interested in knowing what proportion of UK fly fishers still use barbed hooks.

There are still hooks that you can get barbed but with no barbless equivalent, including from a UK brand. I assume that must be because there is a bigger market for the barbed versions than the barbless.

Barbless small dry fly hooks

Yes, and quite small for their size.

Size 20 here pictured (bottom) with Partridge SLD and Kamasan B911 (top and middle respectively), both also in size 20.

True. The internet is unregulated which I guess is both good and bad.

Unfortunately, the qualification to get listened to is not to be good, but to be loud, so that is what people spend their time on.

Being loud pays better than being good.

hi speed tying vids

Me too. I like the high speed vids. Just looking at pike fly videos, some are over 25 minutes long. Way too long for me to watch someone tying one fly. A beginner would want normal speed for demonstrations of technique but if you just want to see how someone tied a fly, high speed is great. Love the...

Should be interesting.

I suspect the relationship between both mass and stiffness affects the propensity to DN and I would like to see how that plays out.

Barbless small dry fly hooks

t.z., any recommendations as to a good mail order source for the following Ahrex hooks?

FW507 in sizes 20 & 22; and
FW517 in sizes 18 & 20.

I can’t find a UK dealer or a website that I can understand.

Cheers

Where can I find a copy of Dr McMillen’s work? I would be interested to read it (hope there’s not too much complicated maths in it :D ) Isn’t viscoelasticity a kind of stiffness? We know bead chain has stiffness and the effect that has in forming the loops we see in siphoning bead chain. Cheers Trev
