Re: glass vs graphite

I think we are reinventing the wheel, this topic has likely been discussed many times. Rod design is obviously depending on material characteristics (I disagree with Lasse on this point, if we are speaking of the same thing). Scott have been making (small) glass rods for years, I own two of them, bu...

Re: does balancing a rod have and effect on casting?

You may ask John Waters about balance, it is a complex issue, and certainly not a static test one.

Gordy Here is the illustration for Lasse’s forward cast. In his case I find something like “3 r”, but had I chosen other points, maybe I would have been closer to 4. Re: Evaluating the Haul

Gordy

Haul distance is measured between line hand position and stripper guide position. My point about the « diameter » of the circular path refers to the « r » value mentioned by Paul. With simplifying assumptions, and for a FC only, the haul distance may equal (in value) 2r (and not r).

Re: Evaluating the Haul

The same illustration for the forward cast. In this case, the difference in haul distance is approximately equal to the "diameter" of the (more than) a half circle:

Re: Evaluating the Haul

Hi Paul

Here is an illustration of your back cast record:

You can see the change in haul distance as the line hand moves forward in a kind of semi circle.

Re: Evaluating the Haul

Hi Paul

I considered two parallel planes, one for the rod, one for line hand. A simplification, I know.
