Flyline Colour
I agree with Paul that fly line color doesn't make a difference, but shadows do. I fish in deep, steep valleys with fir forested banks and in any trip, I may throw an olive-tipped willow line on one spool and might change spools to a line that's white. Hasn't made a difference to the fish that I've ...

Why you’ve been buying the wrong fly line your entire life
Personally, I have to overline the Sage One by 1 or 1.5 to make shorter casts - 30 feet or less - if I hope to be able to repeat the distance and accuracy of a cast. My opinion - and I'm most likely parroting something I read - is that many high-performance rods are designed for casting distances th...

Issues with leader and front of the fly line colapsing
Paul, using 40-feet of force to make a 30-foot cast causes the line and leader to snap back and collapse in a heap, too.

Steelhead fishing is rarely up to the hype and mystique that surround it, and sadly, their numbers are dwindling fast. We expect to se them given federal protection as threatened fairly soon. Thank you for the welcome. Nothing I like more than learning and you all have a lot that you can teach a knu...

Nope, no seal fur to be had in the States, either, thanks to the Marine Mammals Protection Act. The upside to the MMPA is that we have opportunities for some quite exciting moments when one of those protected mammals decides* it wants the salmon we just hooked... * "decides" is used as a l...

As I understand it, the polar bear fur lacks pigmentation and has a "sparkle" that all other furs and synthetics can't match. It's also hydrophobic and floats better than other natural pelts, but I believe it's the quality of light that refracts and reflects that was most valued. Alaskan n...

I'm not a fish!
It's still blowing 60 knot winds and raining horizontally, Paul, so... Descartes found God by being caught philandering and being faced with the threat of excommunication. What old Rene used to "prove" his sudden revelation is moot. MRI mapping of the brain shows - suggests is more honest,...

There are dozens of traditional salmon flies that use polar bear fur. In the States, we struggle to find substitutes.
