Re: glass vs graphite

There is a strange thing that’s happened. Beginners struggle to cast very stiff rods. (I don’t know what Lasse makes of that but no doubt it is psychological for him and not physical) however if you put a very stiff rod in your average caster’s hands then many can’t form serviceable loops. Even som...

Re: glass vs graphite

Hi Phil You're welcome, but that had more to do with what the mind plays of tricks on us, than that the rod was stiff :) You question of bend and material leads straight back to what I wrote earlier, material doesn't say anything about stiffness. Just like the "8wt" doesn't say much either...

Re: OSD

For me, one of a few of the basic distinctions between OSD and 170 is bracing the rod butt against the forearm. I don't do it on OSD but do on 170. But, Lasse, above in the video, it looks like you brace on OSD also??? (I'll try that!. Bracing is a very key ingredient, for me, when fishing with rod...

Re: glass vs graphite

Rubber chickens.... https://vimeo.com/55398671 Will it bend the rod more than a piece of fluff weighing the same? Take away from the clips I posted is that soft and stiff do not require the caster to do anything different. The difference between the two rods posted is greater than what the average c...

Re: glass vs graphite

Just going to leave these here... https://vimeo.com/35513634 https://vimeo.com/35524148 Rodmaterial says nothing about a rods action or stiffness, recovery rate is marketing BS. A heavier line doesn't change a rods action or stiffness. Minds do play tricks on people, especially fishermen minds. Chee...

Re: OSD

I see no mechanical advantage to taking the forearm to an angle further back for distance. The result of doing this is that the loop opens, and we lose carry. The only time I see an advantage in doing this, is on something like the Snakehead Shot, where the longer hand path allows us to slip more l...

Re: OSD

Hi Paul

I disagree, you are deliberatly holding back on your OSD cast there, to make sure the difference is seen. Hang up another 10-15 feet of carry, and it gets less pronounced.
