Re: A different (?) view on rod-design.

His name is Theo Matschewky and this is his website: http://www.solitip.com/home.html I never cast one of his rods. Adding weight to the tip seems absurd to my understanding of fly rod action. I had to replace a broken tip of a rod when traveling in Malaysia some years back, and the only material I ...

Re: How to knot thin “knottable” wire

Hi Paul, It is definitely much thinner and therefore probably also stealthier. The higher stiffness could possibly affect the action of the popper in a negative way. Check out this one: https://www.afwfishing.com/afw_products/Surfstrand_Leader_Wire_Titanium_1x7.asp It is a 7 strand Titanium based le...

Re: How to knot thin “knottable” wire

I was using 20 lbs and 3 5lbs. The bow tie does not tighten up completely but enough that the grinner knot does not slip through - might depend on the diameter of the nylon though, I am using something around 50 lbs nylon.

kind regards

Re: How to knot thin “knottable” wire

Hi Paul I can remember the flats-shirt that you still owe to me :pirate: This was the knot: WireLeaderKnot.png I covered the knot with flexible UV-resin (from Loon), to avoid that the tag end of the wire catches weeds and picks my finger. These are the rings, the company is Stroft: https://www.aspo-...

Re: How to knot thin “knottable” wire

Hi Paul I dealt with the same problem some 2 years ago and found a knot that worked. Unfortunately I can't remember anymore 🤔 Will try to find some old leader, bitnnot sure if I have one here with me in Uganda. You are talking about the TiNi mono-wire, right? Another solution that worked was to use ...

Re: The New Semi Automatic Fly Reels

Hi I just stumbled upon this, fly reels with an electromotor: http://www.electroautomaticflyreels.com/index.html If I remember correctly, somebody was interested in operating the reel with only one hand (did not go through the whole thread again). This part might be of particular interest: "Is ...

Re: Pairing lines to rods

I have successfully repaired loose handles using glue in a syringe. A glue thats expands when hardening like gorilla glue should work best.
Just as an idea for a quick and easy fix.

Re: Thoughts on catch and release - best practice

I became a huge fan of this hook remover tool when grayling fishing last autumn: Screen Shot 2020-02-04 at 23.14.12.png Using this tool, it was easy to unhook the fishes fast and without touching or netting them. I caught grayling up to 40 cm - I can imagine that netting first is more efficient with...
