Re: Curve Casts

Hi Paul, Is it just because the loop doesn't straighten? It seems like a classic example of the line following the rod tip to me. I know one thing you didn't mention is deceleration and the rod fade portion. The fade definitely aides in the loop not turning over because it lays on the water faster. ...

Re: Mel Kriegers 'long roll cast'

I was advised to try the Rio single hand Spey for working towards aapgai instructors... so purchased a 6w line for a 6w rod... great for it’s intended application..Spey casting... but feels like I’m casting a brick for overhead. When I actually looked at the spec of the 6w line, in overhead terms i...

I use and recommend an iPad and Hudl Technique and have a library of casting faults and corrections for onsite, side by side comparison. Works very well.

John
I agree John, the Hudl Technique app is awesome. Multiple slow motion speeds too!

Re: Technical tarpon line

I like the longer heads on Tarpon lines too, but I can't think of many times I have cast to Tarpon over 85' (Using a 15' leader usually). You certainly aren't getting a good hook set that far away. The line has a ton of stretch when it's out that far. I'm using the Cortland Liquid Crystal or the Mon...

Re: Mel Kriegers 'long roll cast'

A couple of things in my opinion from reading the posts here: -The MED is not a great line for roll casting or spey in my opinion. The Rio Single Hand Spey is light years better and I don't even use any other Rio lines. -Regarding pull-back. I think that is on an exam....especially the MCI. You will...

Examination feedback

The new procedures for the CI test usually means the casting component (the first 15 tasks) are moved through pretty quickly, especially those tasks that are covered to some degree in more depth in the teaching tasks. I have never been involved in a test where the side bar discussions used by exami...

Examination feedback

Hi Greg, I agree with you regards the reading of the tasks. I actually recommend to strong candidates that they offer to eliminate this. The “examiners’ huddle” is about trying to get on the same page and it’s for their benefit. I don’t think that an MCI test can be done in 45 mins! CCI certainly. ...

Examination feedback

How long do you want each test to last? Peter, I think I could do the entire test in less than 45 minutes. The reading of tasks takes a lot of time and anyone prepared to pass already knows what is required of every single task. Another time consumer of time are the multiple meetings to walk away a...

Examination feedback

Paul Arden wrote:Are you sure candidates can ask for the complete exam, Lasse?
I'm not even sure they should have to ask.....maybe they just go on to the teaching part (For the MCI maybe I agree since it takes so long). In the CI the teaching tasks really don't take that much time away from an examiner.

So there is just one single problem for them to fix....albeit a big one haha! This was me on test 1 and passed on test 2.
