Re: Hypothetical question on mechanics

It's those damn ectomorphs who ruin it for the rest of us.

Re: Casting into the wind

How important do people feel fly line design is? Do you choose a line with a forward distribution of weight in the head and a steep front taper to aid leader turnover? Does this add enough to let you fish a lighter rod than you might choose otherwise for a windy day (say a 7wt instead of a 9wt while...

Re: Throwing a chicken, or taking a dog nobbler for a walk

I raised a lot of these issues in this thread over on the physics forum......https://www.sexyloops.co.uk/theboard/viewtopic.php?f=11&t=3299 but the discussion died before it was addressed. I'll try them again here because it is something I've not seen discussed previously. "Rubber chickens aside, th...

Re: Q: How does hauling work?

Hi Merlin Your model uses a fixed haul speed to show the effects on line speed of different haul timing.........but mightn't hauling later allow one to haul faster and thereby achieve a higher end line speed than a haul peaking closer to MCL. Here is my thinking. For a given casting arc the rod need...

Re: Q: How does hauling work?

I found post 36 in this thread by Merlin incredibly helpful.......and one of the best posts I have come across on this site. It discusses (and illustrates) the various effects of hauling (and haul timing) on rod loading, unloading, counterflex, and line speed. https://www.sexyloops.co.uk/theboard/vi...

Re: SA Mastery Standard AFFTA line

It is non-textured line Very slick like all AST SA lines (and much better than the Barrio I own) Its running line is thicker (.95mm) than a MED5 (.75mm). Probably in order to float better but it also ought to blow around less in fishing conditions. It seemed to twist a lot less than the MED but that...

Re: SA Mastery Standard AFFTA line

Full head weight on the 6wt (to color change:I didn't measure) was 285grains.

Re: Elbow Out Style

Hi Paul Would a description as "Extended Arm Style" better fit the subject you raised at the start of this thread? The question then becomes whether or when there may be a use for casting with the arm extended through out the stroke. Say an elbow extension of >90 degrees throughout an overhead cast ...

Re: Elbow Out Style

So is this an "elbow out style" ? If not, why not? You guys know better than I but my impression is that a lot of powerful casters throw with their upper arm level with their shoulder. I assume doing so allows them to maximize the effect of rotating and driving forward with their back and legs by cr...
