Cheers James... this also explains why my practice fly of pink egg yarn, turns black and shriveled after a session or two...

shaping the fly leg

Dear board, I'm beginning to throw smaller sized loops when just using the rod hand. :pirate: I am now trying to translate this result to the situation where I double haul. I must say, the front of the loop actually doesn't look that bad. But from time to time I get these oddly shaped fly legs (see ...

Re: understanding tails: finishing the haul too soon

Dear Paul,

I really wish I just had watched the relevant 20 secs or so. Now, I have a zillion other things to correct for, including death grip!!

Just kidding of course... very grateful for your thoughts above, and yet another amazing video to improve my casting with.

All the best,

Richard

Ps: Hahaha, I’m now in the field and because of what both of you said, able to replicate my faulty tail haul on demand! Amazing!

Re: understanding tails: finishing the haul too soon

Hi Paul and Lasse, Thank you for your clarifying comments. I don’t speak casting talk fluently, so I need a bit more time to ponder on the meaning and implication of your words. I wasn’t aware that sometimes pre-release does not lead to tailing loops. I have been struggling with tailing loops on the...

understanding tails: finishing the haul too soon

Hi all, I am trying to wrap my head around the 'finishing the haul' too soon cause of tailing loops as explained in this video [1] at 2'06''. Paul says: "If we’re to finish the haul [before the line is …] before the rod tip is traveling at it’s maximum speed, which is when it’s unbend and passing th...

Bernd's FP - Fly Fishing For Zander Line Set Up

Hi Bernd, (NB: this is not about Zander) when I read your post on Wednesday, I knew I was going to fish on Sunday. The really exciting part was that thanks to Erik Hakkert and Warner Veldhuis, I got some great tips on how I could fish with thinner material and how an indicator made of yarn would hel...

fishing distance: no extended arm?

Hi Paul, thank you very much. So far my humble improvements in 'distance' have come from focusing on better technique, rather than on 'further away'. The reason I particularly like your answer is that by stretching your arm, it becomes so easy to violate the 'within a plane' principle. Moreover, it'...

fishing distance: no extended arm?

Dear Paul, Thanks for providing all the additional information to the videos as well as the extra videos you posted. It must have been quite a lot of work. I have a question on the fishing distance video. It's only when you emphasize that your hands should be opposite from each other on the haul, th...
