Re: measurements during competition match

Hi Lasse, John, Mangrove and Paul, Thank you very much for sharing your insights. Being gadget minded, I was sure there must have been a more elegant digital solution. But I guess, this is a glider aeroplane case. A 100k US dollar item, using a shoe lace on the outside of the plane to determine wind...

measurements during competition match

Hi all, In The Netherlands we are preparing for a first 'official' (i.e. backed up up by the national (fly) fishing sports federation) Dutch championship in 2024. I was wondering whether people could share experiences they have with measuring distance casts. In particular, I was wondering about (1) ...

Re: should the back cast be taught as a release cast?

Hi Paul, Graeme, and others, sorry, I sometimes completely miss the updates. But for those who have gotten here: a link to today's FP on this topic: https://www.sexyloops.com/index.php/ps/learning-to-throw-backwards?fbclid=IwAR3s_IQsX7DAcQI-VQ0ujcySPw4pWRlAE0Dchhn344kliTlHM_vX2Ztsk0A Great stuff! should the back cast be taught as a release cast?

Hi, there is this cast that I 'discovered' early on, on windy days. It is nothing more *and* nothing less, then releasing the line on the back cast. But especially when the wind is coming towards to me, over the water, I'd like to stand with my back towards the water and 'reverse cast', so releasing...

Re: Why no fly casting in the Olympics?

sorry for jumping in late. Surely casting is appealing to a bigger audience: who did not have bystanders whilst practicing? Browsing the 87 replies key appears to generate uptake for the sport globally. I can't believe what is going on in countries like Sweden, England and USA, where there are so ma...

two observations from a student

Hi, I'm a student in fly casting. I have been doing it for a few years now, had some lessons, read some books and down to the road hope to be passing knowledge along to newcomers in the field, because I just LOVE the game. Therefore currently studying the FFI materials and I bluntly disagree with an...

Cheers James... this also explains why my practice fly of pink egg yarn, turns black and shriveled after a session or two...

shaping the fly leg

Dear board, I'm beginning to throw smaller sized loops when just using the rod hand. :pirate: I am now trying to translate this result to the situation where I double haul. I must say, the front of the loop actually doesn't look that bad. But from time to time I get these oddly shaped fly legs (see ...

Re: understanding tails: finishing the haul too soon

Dear Paul,

I really wish I just had watched the relevant 20 secs or so. Now, I have a zillion other things to correct for, including death grip!!

Just kidding of course... very grateful for your thoughts above, and yet another amazing video to improve my casting with.

All the best,

Richard

Re: understanding tails: finishing the haul too soon

Ps: Hahaha, I’m now in the field and because of what both of you said, able to replicate my faulty tail haul on demand! Amazing!
