Re: Structuring multiple lessons

As a principle, it’s been around a while “All motions with the strongest joynts performe. Lett the weaker second and perfect the same. The stronger joynt its motion first must end. Before the nixt to move in the least intend.” (Kinkaid, 1687 cited in Herring & Chapman, 1992). I see a lot of Euro...

Re: Structuring multiple lessons

Even if it follows the proximal to distal principle, if Euronymphing is casting then the pattern is so fuzzy as to have limited coaching utility. Given our agreement of Post 103, we could be following the principle but be teaching poor technique. The adage has been around for a while but what is the...

Re: Structuring multiple lessons

As I understand it, the body core is central to the kinetic chains in sports because it enables load transfers to and from the limbs. Our ability to self organise means that we develop compensatory patterns in the kinetic chain if the chain is disrupted that can lead to high loads on distal parts, o...

Re: Structuring multiple lessons

Hi John If catch rate was a function of casting proficiency, Euronymphers would blank ;) The adage has been around a long time: https://www.flyfisherman.com/editorial/simple-casting-stroke-fixes/384410#:~:text=Here's%20a%20key%20principle%20all,line%20needs%20a%20longer%20stroke. Here’s a key princi...

Re: Structuring multiple lessons

Hi John

Success for me involves fish :D Bearing in mind the principle, what are your thoughts on the instructional adage “short line, short stroke”?

Re: Structuring multiple lessons

I agree with the idea of it being a principle John but there is a range of potential solutions, not a single answer. My kinetic chain cross body is not identical to overhead closed stance for instance.

Re: Structuring multiple lessons

Hi Paul

Is “the” kinetic chain identical if you are standing up throwing a paper plane, when compared to being sat on a high backed chair?

Re: sparse weighted fly short cast

I’m with Gary, include more control tasks in your practice routines. There are technical fixes with leader length and follow through that can take the heat out of the delivery but you don’t want sticking plaster fixes as a default.

1.8m is more than half the width of the streams around here :D

Trying this with a piece of fluff on the end instead of a weighted fly will unlock the wrist :)
