Re: Structuring multiple lessons
Why would you teach a highly variable task by restraining someone?Paul Arden wrote: ↑Mon Apr 29, 2024 3:37 pm Let’s take a 40’ cast then. No obstructions. Our caster has duck taped his rod butt to his forearm because he couldn’t afford the strap.
His cast goes 40’. Are we cool with this? (He’s not a competition caster)

Re: Structuring multiple lessons
Hi John My point is that athletes in many sports produce enhanced performances over time and it is often the result of better technique, better coaching and better preparation, physical and mental........I use movement principles to deliver the novice's objectives. For a recreational angler, can you...

Re: Structuring multiple lessons
And a bit more on baseball. Taking real data based on constraints and looking at the bigger picture rather than absolute performance throws up some interesting findings: Does the kinetic chain link in the expected proximal to distal order? Does it link in the same way with each execution of a moveme...

Re: Structuring multiple lessons
Hi John so I repeat, it has been done before Yes, by starting with a question, forming a hypotheses and conducting a test then analysing the captured data. So what is “the” question that you want answered? in 2023 3,367 pitches hit 100 mph or faster. Something has changed in technique and many coach...

Re: Structuring multiple lessons
Hi John In my view, having specific casting movement data is the starting point. From that, analysis can be performed about what movement patterns and sequences best satisfy any number of casting objectives. The test objective or hypothesis is the starting point for both the scientific method and Sy...

Re: sparse weighted fly short cast
Sounds like a normal days fishingBut you were wading? How deep?
With a long leader, sparse weighted fly?
Short cast that has to be accurate but delicate?
Why not try something difficult?

Re: Structuring multiple lessons
Hi John As I mentioned in my post yesterday, laboratory data needs to be synthesised for lessons. However, the data needs to be gathered for an objective and I highlighted existing issues with that from the meta analysis. As Mark mentioned in post 92 and is evidenced in Paul’s post 114, I believe we...

Re: Structuring multiple lessons
At 30ft. From an open stance, I lift and rotate my shoulders around my core before engaging the distal elements of the kinetic chain including my legs. This is a natural progression from the triangle method.

Re: Structuring multiple lessons
Hi John In my view there are a few considerations. Individual joint linear and vertical velocities, angular velocity of specific segments, segment separation angles, normalised timings of each joint linear and angular velocities and muscle activity, are my important mechanisms. Absolute joint veloci...
