Re: Structuring multiple lessons
Peter Mackenzie-Philps also asked Jim Curry what he knew about entomology and then said “if it’s small and brown, Jim, put on something that’s fkin small and brown” :D :D It sounds very similar to Dave Wiltshire trying to teach me about bugs using the Latin names. :D I haven’t read his book but it ...

Re: Structuring multiple lessons
I listened to one of the recent Fly Culture podcasts where Karl Humphries quoted Peter McKenzie-Philips as saying something like “the most important distance in fly casting can be measured between the ears”. I think it’s the most profound statement that I have heard in a long time.

Re: Structuring multiple lessons
Regarding your generalisation of "Scientists are often narrow specialists and will answer accordingly", it most definitely does not apply to the answers I have received about their specialist fields, and to imply the contrary is absolute rubbish. Biomechanists and Sports Psychologists are...

Re: Structuring multiple lessons
Nor are we here. I have not consulted any US football quarterback coaches. However I have consulted widely with a number of individual, widely published PhDs in the disciplines of biomechanics, motor learning, exercise physiology and sports science. Now I may be wrong, again, but in my humble opini...

Re: Structuring multiple lessons
American Football seems to be heavily aligned with Nick Winkelmans way of doing business https://playfootball.nfl.com/coaches/coaching-the-nfl-way-to-play/ The first video I saw for torso rotation mentioned moving the lead foot to point the toes toward the target. Baseball hitters seem to be showing...

Re: Structuring multiple lessons
What do you think? I think that you are referring to poor performance causing disappointment but trying to shoehorn it into the 3 stages of learning. Maybe you should ask gridiron coaches that question and let us know what answer you obtained. T We are not exactly overrun with them here. Why don’t ...

Just a quick reminder of how simple the 3 stages of learning are:

Re: Structuring multiple lessons
Hi Paul John, I think an external cue would be to reach (or hold) back with the hand as the chest turns to target. I have a similar issue with casters not fully straightening their rod arm (or hauling arm, or both) on stopless backcasts. For them I have them really stretch out to imaginary targets i...

Re: Structuring multiple lessons
Hi John Attend a WC and talk to competitors about that. Are they there for a lesson? Performance or learning? Gary has stated it is used to teach kids in the US how to be quarterbacks. Unless I am mistaken and, or ignorant of the terminology you have used, would that not be based on coaching individ...

Re: Structuring multiple lessons
Hi John Line sag and line slag, means the caster searches for the "feel" of line tension on the rod tip often means the caster falls into the trap of using the wrist/elbow to gain control. The caster reverts to reinforcing an arm centric technique when a body centric technique is the instr...
