Yes to the first. Dismal results. Have done it at the instruction of a mentor to “get the feel,” which I’ve always questioned because I’m getting the feeling of a crap cast.
No to the second given the abysmal results of the first.

Carol, Out of curiosity... And forgive me for being rude, as I know it is considered improper for a gentleman to ask a lady about some of her "personal" numbers, but... How much can you benchpress? I ask because I once heard Tim say his brother Steve could benchpress 450#! Over the years ...

Thank you, Wallace. I’ve heard this before and must still not be doing it right. Back to my practice lane in the snow, running video.

Re: Line config for learning “high and hot” PU
Here is the image Bernd posted in the single hand distance roll thread. The loop starts off narrow and then opens up. I want to get high line speed without a haul and parallel legs on the pickup. It’s just evading me, despite some good tips.

When it starts off relatively narrow and then opens up. At least that’s the terminology I’ve learned. I think Bernd calls it something else.

Re: Line config for learning “high and hot” PU
progressively pick up line until a few inches of the overhang is out of the rod tip. With only a few inches of overhang you're going to 'clank' the backing knot into the tip and the lower rings when you haul. This is never going to work as well as having the backing knot a full haul (plus a 'safety...

Re: Line config for learning “high and hot” PU
Hi Carol So you're suggested to build a 40 foot shootinghead for your rod that says 6 from a 8 wt line right? I'm quite sure its to get the sensation of picking up the heavy head on a overhang, and experience the whump of a tight loop happening at pickup, done right, it will be tight. I would proba...

Re: Line config for learning “high and hot” PU
It’s a term/phrase used (coined?) by Chuck Easterling, MCI with c to a good pickup for distance casts. The phrase was repeated to me by a. Irene who took a class from him.bartdezwaan wrote: ↑Fri Feb 24, 2023 5:59 pm What is a “high and hot” pickup?
I am not familiar with this frase.

Why? Isn’t there a benefit from exaggeration at times?Bernd Ziesche wrote: ↑Fri Feb 24, 2023 3:55 pm Cut off 40 feet of a shooting line? You mean building a shooting head from a parallel? (shooting) line?
I would train with exactly the line I want to fish with instead.
