Re: Reel seats and gravity
15ft rod butt.jpg This is the butt of my 15ft salmon rod (as prepared by me*) - so should I wind the tape to hold the reel clockwise or anticlockwise and from the bottom first or the top? Should I also add some weight to make it cast further bearing in mind this rod is the one used to set the BFCC ...

Re: Line configuration affect on rod
I followed up the initial discussion with some practical tests. Using a 'weak link' in my S55 shooting head outfit, I determined that I could apply more force (by the fact the weak link snapped) with a 55g weight than with a 55g fly line. The difference was stark, no matter how aggressive I made the...

Re: Power pro braid fails
Paul I would use a double surgeons knot to create my loop. Once I set the knot I'd test it by pulling on the loop and single running line. The braid would snap usually 6-8 in(20cm) above the knot. I did not tie the knot at that location and pull it down creating any heat. I did use a Bimini, the li...

Re: OSD
There are many casters somewhere between OSD and 170. Neither here nor there. That’s seems to be where most people end up on their own devices. Cheers, Paul I agree, and perhaps that's why I keep mentioning it. To me, one of the key discriminators between the two is the force input, with the '170' ...

Re: OSD
Hi Rickard, That video is a perfect example of a top class caster showing the difference between a pull-back stop and a '170'. Unfortunately the issue comes with casters who aren't so elite knowing the difference between a '170' and just a wide stroke angle - the two are very different in my opinion...

Re: OSD
No idea who this young lad is , but would this count as a '170' (note the closed stance)?:
Then you have the steppers - I'd say most currently deliver closed stance.

(The “170” for me is “two back-to-back stopless delivery casts”)
Cheers, Paul
That could also describe a beginner's 'windscreen washer' type casting stroke

Re: OSD
Can one achieve 100+’ with OSD? Like, when you guys compete in distance tournaments is the dominant technique 170 or OSD? Yes, with ease - it's perfectly possible to hit 120 or 130 plus with OSD. This gets to the question of when OSD turns into a '170' - I don't think I've seen a satisfactory answe...
