Re: Greetings - another from Oz

Sad to hear the fish kill, well it's OZ drought and floods are common, once I saw a bird don't know what kind, tossing the small rocks from the river bed the water was just keeping the ground wet, it was looking and picking some thing, I was fishing in a deep pool, I went and turned around some roc...

Re: Greetings - another from Oz

Hi Thommo Great to see Murray cod on surface flies or poppers. I used to fish deep water river a lot, I can say fished from the beginning to the end of the river, with poppers only. My preferred place at older age was deep water station, if you know the place. in the video that place looks like Ben...

Re: The one thing instructors never seem to cover?

What I have seen in practice is that line control and casting overloads beginners, there’s too much going on for them to keep up with. If we are going fishing, then I tend to keep them on a short line to give them a chance of just fishing. The flip side of slipping line for stillwaters is seeing pe...

Re: The one thing instructors never seem to cover?

Yes, it seems incredible to me. Like teaching someone to drive a car and not telling them about the brake. I'm self taught from books back in the 70's and I'm pretty sure those books covered what to do with the line hand while false casting. I always have the line in my line hand while false casting...

Re: The one thing instructors never seem to cover?

Yes, at 6:18 in that video, you go through the issue of shooting a little line in the air while false casting. It seems underplayed to me though. Learning to lengthen the line in the air on the false cast deserves a video of its own I reckon, because that is the crux of making your cast longer witho...

The one thing instructors never seem to cover?

I'm yet to see a fly casting instructing video or even IFFA booklets/DVDs that cover the issue of feeding out line while false-casting? Maybe I've missed it? But when teaching newbies to cast, I find they pick up the rod arc, movement, stops, acceleration and tight loop aspects ok. Then as soon as y...

Re: Carp

Yesterday, from Chaffey Dam. Conditions were way less than ideal - too windy, overcast, water murky with a lot of algae. All combine to make sight fishing for carp (my current obsession) nearly impossible. But I spotted about 10, landed this one, got busted off by a bigger one trying to keep it out ...

Re: Greetings - another from Oz

:D :D rapid breathing on the playing of the fish… a true sign of excitement!! Nice water, mate! Does it flood in the winters or is it less regular than this? Did the fish survive the drought? Cheers, Paul Rapid breathing - yes, getting old, despite still dabbling in a little triathlon (can no longe...
