Re: Addressing My Loch Style Casting Issues

And why is it that a kick occurs? Energy not being able to transfer into leader? Yes it actually kicks back. It’s similar to casting a flyline without any leader at all. There are some videos on this somewhere. I can’t remember if it was Nick or James or Gordy who posted it. I don’t know why placin...

Re: Structuring multiple lessons

👍 Yep Rickard Well I've heard these silly arguments often enough, casting sport is not like fishing blah, blah .. mostly by people not involved into the sport. Actually before I'd learn a zillion of presentation casts (and maybe performing them mediocre) I'd try too be good @ the basic overhead cas...

Re: Structuring multiple lessons

I would give a brief explanation that straight tracking is a foundation then some drill that forces accuracy. Hoops or Joan Wulffs picking leaves for example. I do something similar myself, I don’t make long winded explanations. How do you enforce accuracy on the back cast? Regards Vince The back c...

Re: Structuring multiple lessons

To be accurate things must be straight. And we cannot get away from that our stroke must be straight in fly casting. How do you teach people to cast a straight stroke? I would give a brief explanation that straight tracking is a foundation then some drill that forces accuracy. Hoops or Joan Wulffs ...

Re: Structuring multiple lessons

Accuracy might not be the same as other strokes but I think training accuracy to targets is one of the most useful things for building all skills in fly casting. I’m sure that nothing has added more feet to my distance than accuracy training. To be accurate things must be straight. And we cannot get...

Re: Structuring multiple lessons

LK has dedicated a chapter on distance casting in his Salt Water book, there he has written you should aim for at least 100ft. Do you disagree? Pretty solid advice in my experience. Not that one is likely to get there using his ‘tips’ alone. Strong wind punishes casting faults. Practicing distance ...

Re: Structuring multiple lessons

Is the cue "hold a book tucked under the arm" still alive? One day when I was doing 170 distance on the field someone walked by and told me that I was "too wide/bushy" and should be able to keep a book tucked between my upper body and arm. That would be an interesting constraint ...

Re: Mental Practice

I think watching videos of good casts is good for this.
Videos like this one:

And pantomime the cast with the first section of the rod. Doing it slow with some kind of mirror, at least at first.

Re: How to cast a pointed loop?

\\\\\\/

For someone not casting pointy loops I would say rotate later and haul later than you currently do. And get out on the lawn.
