Re: Learning syllabus - certifications

I think this beginner has already left the building .... Cars fixed and I'm off fishing. But as a parting shot. Feel - I've never suggested that this is taught, indeed I have no idea how you'd do that in casting. But it is the end goal I think. Watching loops confirms if the cast was as intended. So...

Re: Learning syllabus - certifications

No idea, but that isn't really the point. My learning is very much about feel. Fly casting is no different to any other sport/pastime, they are all about feel really. I try and learn an action and build up the feel or muscle memory to be able to perform it repeatedly. and to make subtle changes mid ...

Just hoping there is still room to fish and cast after they have built their Windmills and Bailiffs lodge. Don't start me on Speys - been watching some more videos. It's bound to mean a new r...

Re: Learning syllabus - certifications

Paul, If I look at the four disciplines of Accuracy, Distance, Speys and Presentations, then I find that each helps the others. I imagine it as being four cornerstones of a pyramid. I see major all-round gains being developed from each block. But it depends where you are and what you want. Most of u...

Re: Learning syllabus - certifications

Hi Chris, If you've fished with Nick then I expect that was at Wolvey, which is my home lake as well. I live down near Stratford upon Avon. The lakes have just been stocked and are now open again, so I'm hoping to get back there for practice and a bit of fishing, once the car is back on the road. Th...

Re: Learning syllabus - certifications

Can't help thinking that trying to learn many casts just makes them all poor. Wouldn't it be better to concentrate on one and learn it properly?

Re: Learning syllabus - certifications

Well I think a subset of Paul's list. Accuracy, OSD, Hauling - yes Roll cast, 3 stops - yes Backcast deliveries - yes, I guess Jump Roll - possibly once i understand what its for Spey Casts - Would love to as they look so stylish, but will leave for much later. 170 - don't think so, nice for the bdf...
