Double Haul and line speed

I've been pondering what positive and negative effects the stripper guide distance cause? During forward cast the haul direction is well aligned to rod butt vise so guide location does not have much effect. But for back cast there becomes quite long lever to the stripper guide which should decrease ...

Double Haul and line speed

Bernd Ziesche wrote:Hi Au Sable,
In my exp. speed of the line thru the guides (hauling speed) is about one third of the overall line speed in an avg. cast.
So haul increase speed 50% and it increase kinetic energy 125% which is impressive portion.

Differences between Sage One 5wt & Loomis NRX?

One is very light and NRX is not light. Many modern rods are stiff for their rating! Perhaps you would like One #4 with 5wt line?

Fishtailing on fly leg/leader ?

Another question if I may , I read a lot of guys make a big deal about rod weight , this brand is 1/10 .oz lighter than the other brand and how much it effects their " technical casting " yet , I have browsed thru the Board and I see very little reference made to this factor ? Rod weight does not i...

Whole concept is strange? Makes rod softer and increase rod weight. Also makes action angle lower.

Same effect is to select a softer rod which also decrease rod weight slightly.

Correct reel weight to balance rods?

I think a fly rod can have Balance only when it is mostly static like it is when fishing but as soon as rod is rotated it faces dynamic force and balance kind of rises up. I don't know what it is called in physics. Another thing is "the wrist flick" in the end of casting stroke. When heavy reel is b...
