Correct reel weight to balance rods?

Try casting without the reel on the rod. You need to give it a good few minutes to get the feel for it.

It will give you a different perspective on how or whether it is important to balance the rod with the reel.

Should foreigners pay more to fish in Europe?

Still sounds cheaper than fishing in Hampshire. I assume they'll put the money to good use. In Hampshire, you pay the money to the private (most likely) estate which owns the land through which the river runs and they maintain the fishery. I don't know how it works in NZ, but it seems to me you pay ...

Tapered leader hitting the caster

I just find a good drift helps to take the sting out of the turnover, if that's the problem, with the fly coming and hitting him up the backside. Shooting a bit of line into the back cast can help too. I agree with Vince that it could be worth thinking about the leader. Suggested fixes, and I also a...

Tapered leader hitting the caster

I find this is a common problem with heavy lines that turn over strongly. I don't know the barstool 40+ but I'm guessing it is that kind of line.

Adding a good drift on the back cast often helps to alleviate the problem.

none flexible vs. flexible fly rod

As an edit to my previous post, to say there is no difference in mass in the rods in the Borger/Lovell results is to misrepresent them, but my question is the same.

I don't see why the results, in terms of whether the flexible or rigid rods wins out, should be any different.

none flexible vs. flexible fly rod

Borger and Lovell came up with some results and I believe there was no difference in mass between the actual rod and the hypothetical rigid rod. Clearly the mass of the rods were a factor in those results, but if they were massless, would that work to the favour of the rigid rod or the flexible rod?...
