Re: Physics Q/As for the casual reader

Ah, sorry Paul! I was confused by the Q/A  How is a dolphin nose loops produced? How is a U shaped loop produced? How do you create a pointed/wedge loop? How does tip bounce create wind knots? Why can't you have a leader of just tippet? What determines the correct stroke length? How do...

Re: Physics Q/As for the casual reader

Hi Paul, What's an anchor? A portion of the fly line and/or the leader on the water. Purpose of the Anchor in roll/speys; Stops the fly going into trees/bushes, sheep etc behind you by 'anchoring' the tip of the fly line on the water. It enables you to get all the momentum going in the correct direc...

Re: Scientific anglers mastery VPT

Hi all, I thought i'd give you an update on this fantastic line! I bought the #6 version which has a head length of 45', so 5x the rod length for my 9' rod (the HT). The first task was to weigh the line, and as expected, it was BANG on #6 for the first 30'! It didn't surprise me as that was written ...

Re: Scientific anglers mastery VPT

Hi all, The Rio SHS 5 is a great 7, litterally ;) Paul would call it a brick on a string :D I'd call it that too ;) Isn't the '#5' closer to an #8 mate? I could only afford two to give it a try (£100!!!!) ;) i tried to get the '#3' but i haven't seen one in stock over here for a very long time, they...

Re: Reel orientation

Hello! It's often called 'Chinese style', and that's straight from Simon G, i don't know why :) The mass of the reel does feel different, and it gives the rod a different feeling IMO. I had to do this with old 3 piece rods to stop the line sticking to the blank when hauling. I noticed that Jerry Sie...

Scientific anglers mastery VPT

Hi all,

I was wondering if anybody has used this line for speys, as it's quite tricky to get hold of the SLX now. What do you think of it?

I've tried a couple of Rio SHS on the HT, the '#5' was quite nice on this. :)

Re: Leader connections

Thank you, Paul. Yes i needle knot a tapered leader to the line too, i use 4.5 turns instead of 2.5, so i should try it and see what happens. I use tippet rings now, too. Makes the leader last quite a long time. :)

All the best

Nick
