Re: Teaching (myself) 170 backcast tracking
Thanks guys! Plenty to chew on. I appreciate your generosity. I think I have a pretty good grasp of a lot of it. I was just baffled by my poor tracking. i went out and played this evening but the 15+ side wind was not real helpful. I did see some improvement after watching Lasses' videos and noted h...

Teaching (myself) 170 backcast tracking
There is no doubt that I can generate more force on my backcast using the 170 technique but my tracking goes all to hell. I am struggling to keep the legs parallel. I was hoping for vertical, but even off vertical, the loop is far from decent. I commonly achieve better distance with the 170 backcast...

Re: Free Teaching
Tuition is a curious term not common over here in the US BTW... But, what about implied value? If it is free... how can it be worth much? I know that idea was floated when I was doing "free" classes through a big box store. You get what you pay for... so the more the instructor's time cost...

Re: Leader connections
I don't have access to an Instron anymore (actually I probably do if I asked), but my experience tells me what the results would show and that might be somewhat surprising to most. I make my own loop at the end of the flyline by doubling the line back and securing it with a nail knot. One nail knot....

Re: The stop revisited.
Some of this is hazy but the impact was concrete... at least for me. A long time ago, I think on the old board, a gentleman who's name I forget, but I don't think is active on SL any more, made a post in some sort of casting or physics thread. Is that hazy enough? In either a film clip or a series o...

Re: The stop revisited.
I disagree with this statement, any rod works with swing, spring, and leverage, and none of these mechanisms can disappear. Merlin Merlin, I have for a long time held a vague suspicion that there is a combination of force, timing and technique that fits into some sort of sweet spot where a particul...

Re: Integrated Shooting Head Lines
This is a little off topic, which I know is not unusual for me, but... I cast a Ballistic Pro line a little while ago. A friend who is the most comp oriented caster I know brought it to playtime. The head felt a bit heavy to me, compared to my MED, but when the rear connection flew out of the rings ...

The 270?
Just curious...
Has anyone tried a stopless presentation stroke from a horizontal rod plane?
You don't have to worry about breaking your rod by slapping the ground, and the results are quite curious.
BTW... don't blame me... its all Phil's fault!

Re: Question about optimal head length
If we have a 30' head now we have a problem. Because if we carry just the head at the top of the loop it's not enough to throw distance. I think I have found an interesting corollary to this? Not for max distance, but for minimal effort when working mangrove shorelines. My measurements (all approxi...

Re: Blind casting
Hi Phil ! 1a Yes 1b not really 2a Sort of 2b nope I commonly close my eyes while playing to concentrate on feedback. Lately, I have been closing my eyes to concentrate on sequencing of movements that are outside my default stroke. And when I do open them, the loop shape is commonly not as good as th...
