Re: Heavier guides and effect on rod action

I measured all the guides but can't find the data now. I think the weight of the recoils was 0.05 g, the torzites 0.12 g, the H&H tip top 0.27 g, but I am not sure if I remember correctly. I didn't expect a noticeable difference in action from the guide weight difference, but it's quite apparent...

Re: Observations while practicing slip lift PULD cast

Hi Some additional thoughts from my side regarding the snakehead shot: - Don’t practice casting at targets but in front of them (1-3 feet). I like to use floating leaves or other stuff as imaginary fish and decide where they are facing during the backcast – not before, as real fish sometimes turn af...

Re: Heavier guides and effect on rod action

Hi Bart I built up two HT4s, one with original recoils, one with small (size 5 or 5.5) torzites. I saved some weight on both by replacing the standard sleeve tip guide with a just another running guide. The difference in action was remarkable, much more than I expected, and I wouldn't use torzites o...

Landing nets for flats fishing

The thing with the slime is what one often hears/reads for a reason not to use a net. I would only use a net in order to be more fish friendly. I am thinking about a rubber mesh wading net (trout competition style). I guess it's a trade off between shorter fight/reduced stress and damaging the slime...

Landing nets for flats fishing

Hi all

Whats your opinion about landing nets for flats/bonefish fishing? Is anyone around that is using a net?

Fly tying preparations for Bahamas

I was quite busy in the last few days. My tying preparations got interrupted by a 7wt rod build and a casting course with Bernd Ziesche. Still managed to tie a few more clousers (some with EP fibers), Gotchas and some streamers....

Fly tying preparations for Bahamas

Wow, what a shark James! How heavy was this fish? And how much line did it take? Must have been a long fight? Thanks for showing the tarpon fly, Willy. Too bad that the hooks broke. I don't expect to see any tarpon on this trip. Hope I will get the opportunity to fish for them someday :) Hi Pete, I ...

Fly tying preparations for Bahamas

Hi James I tied some clousers in the meantime, on size 1/0 hooks. Will tie some smaller ones next. clousers.jpg I plan to tie some hollow-style bucktail streamers for sharks, like this one (my go to pike pattern) but on a stronger hook. What do you think about the size? I like the pike streamers rat...
