Fly line for a beginner
My favorite fishing line for overhead casting is SA Trout Taper. It is possible to cast 10ft...55ft line loops but also do quite efficient line shoot casts when there is only 30ft of line head out of rod tip because line begins to thin there and of course shoot to 100ft after a long carry. Roll and ...

Shock absorber - Bernd’s FP
Boiling the butt section of a leader in water which has some winegar makes Nylon stretchy and when kept wet in ziplock bag it stay soft few months.

Upward Force from Form Drag
Esa The same issue applies to the skin shooter as to the cast. In the normal plane, lift has to generate a 1g upward force, to oppose the 1g downward force of gravity to maintain a level position. When you turn the loop such that Gravity is no longer opposing the skin drag generated aerodynamic lif...

Upward Force from Form Drag
Now after seeing the String Shooter I believe the "skin drag effect" is significant to keep the line loop not falling as much as gravity would. "The wheel effect" still is the main power which acelerates the line loop speed and there fly leg skin drag has negative effect to fly l...

Blowing out D-loop
I'd recommend to optimize the tip section. There are Skagit tips available probably coming with more weight as does your short PL. I'd aim for one of them in order to make it easier not to blow the anchor/D. Regards Bernd No Bernd that is one of the wrong myths in FF! Heavier tip blows more than li...

Blowing out D-loop
I managed to take a water anchor video of a typical heavy Skagit tip which is here 15ft T18 and typical Scandi tip a 15ft 30lbs mono leader which I did cast same time attached to a Skagit belly. I made a mechanical latch which did release both "flyes" simultaneously. I formed the D-loop pu...

Upward Force from Form Drag
When line loop crashes in Graemes great video there can not come the line loop acceleration when fly leg shortens like in this video

Distance cast with line weight
I have done two tests. One was 6wt and 8wt SA Sharkskin Trout taper and other line I don't remember just now. There came about 10% difference. Back then my casting consistency was poor and I did cast outdoors although I did chose days there was not much wind. To see meaningful results I did cast man...

Creep and Drag-effective on rod load
Creep increase the rod bend because it shortens the following casting stroke which needs to come more powerful! Drag accelerates line so I can't say its effect to rod bend but I think it also increase rod bend because rod rotating phase shortens.

The Roll Cast page
If you get snow or you find an empty asphalt parking lot which has become smooth you can practice even Spey casting using tied up very long leader. On grass this does not work very well because when there comes sideways pull to the line there comes too erratic behavior. Esa https://youtube.com/watch...
