Is there intelligence in fish?

Great front page from Gary on Tues. Fish mostly for trout , and find that small changes in a fly can make a difference especially when the particular food source is plentiful and fish are locked on. eg I am currently a fan of trailing shucks and these are mostly on size 18 hooks and seem to make a d...

This proves something. Not quite sure what. Is it the momentum of the fly leg creates the loop and not the loop pulls the fly leg along ? ..........................John

Fishing Lough Corrib in May

Hey Michael, The big expanse of water on Corrib can be a bit daunting the first time you see it but dont worry there are loads of bays and islands , so just fish shorelines to start with. Concentrate on the water in front of you and forget the big expanse outside. Mid May should be good timing for M...

Paul I have never seen so many good trout lying in inches of water, especially in lakes. You just don't see that in Ireland at any rate. This is one of the better ones , right in the shallows.

rod accuracy

Thanks for your answer about glass Chris. Can I add a little to Paul's question Chris, I heard that you were playing with different leader configurations prior to the competition. This is one area I really believe where you guys and your US history of accuracy competitions really shine. Are there an...

Loop the Loop

Great article James and quite reassuring for me as I always cut off welded loops and replace with braided loops which I also whip finish as well as superglue the leader end of the plastic sleeve.Think you are right about the main function of the sleeve is to stop the braid unraveling . I also like t...

rod accuracy

Regarding your comment on 'glass' being a bit much, we actually teach and train with full action fiberglass rods all the time and feel doing so, is a BIG advantage for improving our strokes, dampening, loops, etc. Hey Chris, while I'm not a competition caster I do find this subject interesting and ...

The other method for accuracy casting is not to see the fly, only the centre of the hoop. There is no centre but concentrate on finding it. Don't see the rings, fly, leader or anything else and let your mind tell you when you are over the hoop and. A bit Zen and takes much practice but worth it for...
