Re: Changing task constraints
Hi Paul Thank you, that gives me something to try. Hi Craig Strangely, that was the basis of the lesson I gave at the weekend. I also see the hand moving apart naturally but for people here that haven been instructed, the rod hand moves away from the hauling hand which results in an early haul. I th...

Re: Changing task constraints
Thanks both, let me see if I can find the holes in my understanding. There’s 2 things that stand out for me. I’m not convinced that maximum overhang on the backcast is always the best way to throw distance on the forward. If you are able to generate more line speed on the bc, why wouldn’t you want t...

Re: Changing task constraints
Thanks for the explanation Paul, as ever, I’ll bounce a couple of things back to see where it leads. I lift weighs and I lift the same weight with each arm. If anything my left side I believe is actually slightly stronger. So I think it’s a coordination issue (and to a lesser degree a sighting with ...

Re: Changing task constraints
Hi Paul the 170 is far superior to Open Distance with the long belly WF MED. And the fact that Steve is still highly competitive with the Open Stance Distance stroke he uses is not testament to the stroke, but to his outstanding ability to use it…. He has a blistering haul. A couple of questions the...

Re: Changing task constraints
Hi Paul I have to disagree with most of your last post on principle :D :D There’s a lot in that article that is geared to what goes on between the ears which is rarely addressed by anything you see in fly casting literature. Particularly, the phrase “ As sport psychologists are well aware, suboptima...

Re: Changing task constraints
Hi Paul
I agree with almost everything you say in post 45, apart from the miracle cures piece I could also tell you about problem students but not on open forum.
Regards
Vince

Re: Changing task constraints
Hi Paul 1 Amplification of error - Is along the lines of what we discussed on freezing and unlocking of movement. It takes movement to extremes to allow the student to explore outcomes and settle on a solution. I haven’t had the opportunity to try this but I can see some utility within a lesson rath...

John
I think that we need a good awareness of both disciplines and how they relate to each other.

Re: Changing task constraints
Hi Paul But I think you can gather from my posts above that I’m far less focussed on outcome of the loop or the fly when teaching and far more interested in body movement and how it applies force to the rod. How are they going to repeat the outcome after the lesson without your feedback? …. teaching...
