Re: Tracking and Loop planes

Hi Graeme, Your fine sketch doesn't show any tip path, so how would Paul know about the tracking here? 🤔 .... Hi Bernd, I usually consider my words pretty carefully when I post here. When I stated the following in the same post, I assumed Paul would be able to imply the tip path from the conditions...

Very good point and it’s always the first question to ask.

Re: Tracking and Loop planes

And here is the same caster with a nearly vertical rod, choosing the same suboptimal rear target. This is the classic tracking error that we all recognise. IMG_0910.jpeg For me, these are both tracking errors, producing similar line layout errors for the same reason and with the same solution to cor...

Re: Tracking and Loop planes

Tracking for me relates to the path of the rod tip relative to the surface/plane the rod moves through. For me tracking can therefore be straight or curved, irrespective of our preferred geometry constraints. Hi Paul, I understand your point of view. Can I ask how you’d define the following error p...

That makes all sense now. I like the use of the Nike logo. 👌🙏

Cheers, Paul
Yep, and I got it from you. 😁

Re: Tracking and Loop planes

So you are saying (following your hint) to always point the whiteboard towards the target and the target can be at 90, 45 or anywhere. Makes sense then. 🙏 It does not fit how I often use the Snake roll though. My tip changes plane a lot before I more or less draw the final D opposite directed to th...

Re: Tracking and Loop planes

If the target is 90degree to that (straight to the other bank), then why you want to draw the D loop in a plane being only in a 45degree angle and thus not being inline with the target? You said you want the D 180degree to the target. Seems I miss something here. Hi Bernd, Yes, you did miss somethi...

Re: Tracking and Loop planes

Hello Graeme, I like your explanation of the plane for Gary. Well put! 👌 From my point of view, the rod tip path does not need to be within the same (true) plane as the rod. A vertical loop with a nearly horizontal rod plane is one such case. When you move your rod in a horizontal plane, gravity pu...

Re: Tracking and Loop planes

... But I must move the rod through different planes. There are actually very few times when I can imagine the rod being in that same plane, like tuck casts and curves. Do I have this mixed up? Hi Gary, I think you do have it mixed up. Here's a really simple visualisation of the plane the rod is mo...
