Learning from falling and leaping chains

Place a few meters (length up to you) of fly line in a folded loop shape flat on a smooth floor. The more frictionless the surface the better. If the line has memory curls then remove them by stretching the line before placing the loop. http://imageshack.com/a/img208/2856/zlv1.jpg Now pull one end,...

Learning from falling and leaping chains

Good work. Lots of food for thought.
Thanks for sharing it! :)

The Loop. A victim of circumstances.

Now I was arguing just the energy part of your post. :D

Believe me: I have made lots of experiments over the last four years, and although they might be considered irrelevant I have learned more from any of them than from reading 1000 posts :pirate:

The Loop. A victim of circumstances.

In real world examples of pull back we actually get to see the loop move backwards before the massive line acceleration forward. I think we can all agree that's CoE in action? So you add energy by pulling on the rod leg for energy to be... conserved :oh: But I won't follow this path again here. I k...

Exactly (it could also be a "triple haul") and if you take the time to read the whole conversation you'll see that that was the point of that clip.

A/The possible primary cause of tailing loops

Lasse Karlsson wrote:Hi Aitor

Would a rod unbend even if we where still accelerating ? In flycasting :)

Cheers
Lasse
It depends on the angle between rod and line.

James,

I was in a hurry an forgot to add that, given the chain length and the height of table top, the keys at the end reach the floor after the loop has straightened.

The Loop. A victim of circumstances.

Hi Aitor, I have a quick question about your film. Is the end of the chain already in contact with the floor when you release it? If not, would you agree that the suspended mass increases up to the point where it first meets the floor? Cheers, James Hi there! No, the end of the chain hangs just fro...
