Re: Single handed distance roll casting
I enjoy your discussions BUT this thread is called Single handed distance roll casting Here here Torsten. One mention of "wrist" in the cast and someone's ocd kicks in........... I've heard criticism of competition casters' back casts from some instructors, even MCIs, Simple really...

Re: Teaching tip path in DH
Watching everything. The tip only at certain stages, when you can, you can't watch it all the time, but there are key moments.. And of course there are different watch points for each cast. Where the tip is at the start of the lift. Watch Point P run away from you during the lift Watch the tip heigh...

Re: Teaching Spey
Good luck with the shoulder Jarmo. I avoid the dip, just another thing for me to get wrong in the "cascade of moves". I find that the first of the acceleration into the sweep flattens (slightly dips) the rod tip path for a meter or so, and that is sufficient to translate into a desirable a...

Re: Teaching tip path
"Tip in a straight line" Morsie, what fraction of tip path you are referring to here? It depends on the loop you want to throw. A larger wide loop, the kind of loop you'd use with a 3 fly rig, sufficient slp to keep the fly leg straight enough to unroll the leader, ie not "dump"...

Re: Single handed distance roll casting
Aiming for a SLP reminds me of some Spey instruction I got from Tony Loader a few years ago. He told me to stop the rod at 12 on the fc. Changed my loops instantly and I've never looked back. He said afterwards, "Of course you won't stop at 12, you'll stop at 11 and that will suffice". You...

Re: Single handed distance roll casting
When it comes to the student the single best thing we can teach them imo is how to watch their backcast. Probably the best bit of advise I was given when I started out on the MCI journey was, I'm pretty sure from Lasse when he was downunder some years ago. I'm sure he'll correct me if my memory is ...

Re: Teaching Spey
Great stuff Will thanks for your insight. Such a big difference between running water and stillwater and how they affect the lift as well. Fair to say "It all starts at the beginning".........
