Factors affecting overhang.

Very good efficiency comes from an overhead cast where line has straightened before delivery cast begins. Worst efficiency comes from a roll cast when back cast room is very limited. Spey casting falls somewhere between but efficiency depends of various variables.

Factors affecting overhang.

Overhang with typical Skagit head is not good because it make the line mass in top part of the D-loop proportionally lighter. Typical Skagit line is prone to anchor "blowing" because the mono leader is short and line tip is heavy. Also SA cast anchor often comes more sideways than most T&a...

130 is a new 120

My tennis elbow is the biggest problem. I can't cast to often. And after not casting for more than 1 week I can feel the loss in strength/speed in my wrist. Cheers, Bart Hi Bart! I got my elbow very bad last season. Then I met a therapist who recommended to buy a Power Ball and after a month only f...

Contributions of lever, spring and inertial acceleration

Does the lever effect come low because DH casting stroke/power input ends when rod still has lots of bend?

Vosseler or Danielsson

Danielsson is great for shooting head use because I can put the spool to even hot water to treat Nylon shooting line when it does not have any brake and bearing components. Danielssons also have full cages which makes them stiff and keep thin shooting line inside better.

Shorter Rods

When same line is cast to headwind the difference is very small and shorter rod might even perform better. In calm it is about 3ft but to tail wind longer rod allows higher cast trajectory and performance comes significantly better.

Shorter Rods

When you use short rod and cast heavier line without increasing casting effort it is! Haul accelerates line about the same despite rod length so line speed does not drop too much and heavier line has less wind resistace against its momentum.

Italian style of casting...

Rod is easy if you have a rod which you don’t like or use anymore building a new handle up the blank and brings new life for it. If original is 9 ft four piece and you use three it comes about 7ft and there comes a need to wrap only one stripper to middle section. Using a two piece rod you can make ...

Practice rod

Expensive rods and new cheap rods can be lighter than old rods and casting comes lighter too so perhaps you can practice more? For casting performance rod weight seems to have very small effect. When casting outdoors the wind has so big influence to casting that seeing rod effect is often impossible...
