Re: Measuring the Haul
The misunderstanding Günter had, was that he believed hauling to big the big factor in line speed, not rod movement. Bernd, And I think that is the answer to your question about why we can cast longer distances with a standard rod hand movement that will produce higher angular velocity values than ...

Re: Measuring the Haul
So this hauling style is promoting an early haul, one that happens before rotation. Graeme, It appears to me he is still moving his haul hand away from the movement of the stripper guide after the rod has passed the vertical and is near the expected MAV point. haul_near_MAV.jpg Since the haul speed...

Re: Measuring the Haul
Have you thought about the "when to haul" and the impact on moving line hand and guide away of each other, Gordy? Bernd, As has been discussed on other threads the peak haul speed will occur near MAV on the back cast since the stripper guide speed has the dominate effect on the overall ha...

Re: Measuring the Haul
I saw a serious number of instructors try this technique and Günter tried to animate most his students to do so. I yet never saw anyone use it in fishing. Bernd, That camera position makes the off shoulder "power haul" technique look even more unwieldy. Do you have any videos of the haul ...

Re: Measuring the Haul
Maybe you could use Tracker to test that expectation on one of Lasse's casts with a line marker. Both approaches have small errors that come from using straight line, 2D approximations to the actual distances but I think those errors would be quite small since the line curvature or z separation dis...

Re: Evaluating the Haul
Merlin, I am glad that you are digging into this but I think you will find your circular path shapes and velocity values may need some refinement to get a more accurate view of how the haul speed is affected by the relative movement of the stripper guide and the haul hand. I can send you some actual...

Re: Rod tracking and accuracy
Paul,Now let’s just say that a rod deviates less side to side during recovery… how much improvement on accuracy are we actually looking at here with the rod…
In my experience more targets are missed due to a short or long distance error rather than a left or right azimuth error.

Re: Measuring the Haul
Does a horizontal hand path that is opposite to the stripper guide motion qualify as having a higher effectiveness as compared to the rounded path that is in-line with the rod and thus does not capture much of the stripper guide speed? Walter, What is you view regarding the relative efficiency and ...

Re: Measuring the Haul
Tell me what you'd like to see in the video and I'll shoot it tomorrow morning. Graeme, If you could use the proper camera placement to measure the haul speed produced by Günter Feuerstein's "power haul" technique that would be of great interest to me. Emulating that cast with a shorter l...

Re: Measuring the Haul
I gave a definition for effectiveness and efficiency here: and When we look at the haul our input is the relative movement of our hands during the casting stroke/haul. If our hands move 1 meter relative to each other and that causes our hauling distance to be 1 meter, then our hauling distance with...
