I'm actually impressed that they have shows that have 100' casting pools! I've only ever been at one that had that, mostly it's about 70 foot

Incidentally a well-designed rod should cope with 20 feet as easily as 100. It's competition distances where stiffness matters and it's not as significant as many would believe. I genuinely don't believe that distance casting is driving rod development! Better casting abilities might be. Marketing ...

Honestly, I doubt competition casting has had any impact what so ever on rod design for the last 30 years, way to much a niche part of flyfishing, a tiny tiny niche...
