Re: Weighted flies training time
I'm always slightly surprised at how much difference the terminal tackle I'm using here in the Bahamas makes to my cast, i.e. a substantial 'budgie' of a fly with 20 inches of thick wire (with split rings etc). Firstly, any attempt at a roll cast pick-up is doomed to a humiliating failure. As such, ...

Re: Conservation Of Angular Momentum (COAM)
I thought it had been agreed that, in the real world cast, coam doesn’t exist. A quick comment before analyzing your post in details: COAM does not exist since there are external forces acting on the loop, One of the issues with this type of discussion is the desire to over simplify things. Unfortu...

Re: Conservation Of Angular Momentum (COAM)
I'll also add another note here about how care is needed in physics whilst swapping between systems and how you need to be careful with certain observations and conclusions. A good example is Newton's cradle. Imagine just tracking the motion of the first ball bearing only, when it has been lifted an...

Re: Conservation Of Angular Momentum (COAM)
I'd like to put in a point of clarification here also; the formula for evaluating angular momentum doesn't actually contain a term for the angle change, just mass and radius, this is an important thing to remember. People can get drawn into thinking they want to see something rotating around a full ...

Re: Good photo for SW shirt background?
For me personally I'd be very wary of having a pattern on what essentially is a stalking shirt. Certainly I wouldn't want anything with eyes that are clearly a feature. I guess my idea of a perfect shirt would just be the cloud pattern and nothing else (but then maybe I'm being totally paranoid :blu...

Re: WC rules and it's impact
My personal view: Junk the championship event. Have more daily events with more categories to encourage novices, children, women etc to have a go Maybe offer a discount entry for all the people who were trying out rods. Give them the option to directly compare different rods. Some for of basic tuit...

Re: WC rules and it's impact
Hi James, In the GFF the winner took the rod. It was sponsored by the Sage distributor. Also we had more to win for the 2nd and 3rd rating. In addition we split beginners and advanced. That was a key to draw more beginners in. I like your trophy however. Pretty cool! 👌 Cheers Bernd Hi Bernd, There ...

Re: WC rules and it's impact
The BFCC ran the casting competitions at the three UK game fairs this year, all tackle was provided. The rod for the #5 distance event was stiff, but not a #10. The accuracy rod was one that I'd fish with a #5 and the salmon rod was a normal fishing 15 footer. We still weren't exactly run off our fe...

Re: WC rules and it's impact
Hi Bernd, At the BFCC I've been known to cast the #5, #7 and ST27 all on the same off-the-shelf rod. I guess someone who has designed a custom rod is then going to put a lot of hours into casting it - could it be Lasse's old cliché coming to the fore - i.e. the rod you practice most with...? Cheers,...
