Drifting styles
You emphasise on lifting as well the use of rotary drift to align the straightening line with rod tip, but if you watch casters such as Jerry some and even the rajeff brothers, they use just rotary drift with no apparent lift unless I'm missing it, what if you don't use lift? Just rotate the hand ba...

Re: Hauling and taking power out of rod hand.
What about excessive counterflex after the stop causing the tip to raise? I could see a severe bounce having the lines cross, I dunno.

Re: Hauling and taking power out of rod hand.
I'm sorry I meant "not relaxing" after the stop contributing to problems.

Re: Hauling and taking power out of rod hand.
How about relaxing the hand right after the stop? Can this contribute to any other casting faults other than a wavy upper top leg or wide loops? Other day at the lake I practiced relaxing right after the stop (also stopping and hauling through a relaxed grip, if that makes sense) and it seemed to he...

Rod tip path
I've read that the tip position at the beginning of the stroke needs to be inline to where the the tip is during the deepest load in the rod during the stroke. Seems basic but agreeable to everyone? This gives you a straight path and avoids tailing loops, gives you a good visualization on opening th...

Can you send a picture or direct me to a resource about that grip?

Re: Hauling and taking power out of rod hand.
It's an interesting subject, it's made a huge difference when carrying longer lengths of line. I have a big problem death gripping the rod, and I'm constantly reminding myself to loosen up, I dunno if you have any suggestions or exercises for gripping the rod with the appropriate amount of pressure....

Casting with guides out 90 degrees
This is something that isn't mentioned like it should in that fly line sticks when wet, and if the guides are not turned outward or if there isn't a slight deviation of the reel (therefore the guides as well) at least 45 degrees in the backcast the line will touch the blank and stick, and your haul ...

Re: Hauling and taking power out of rod hand.
By retarding the tip I assume you mean slowing down the counterflex, in other words as the rod unloads and then the haul is performed, and since you're pulling against line going forward it slows the raising of the tip.I also realize that hauling in general tightens loops by applying more bend in th...

Hauling and taking power out of rod hand.
I've noticed that if I apply more power\speed with my hauling hand and reduce the power \speed I put into with my rod hand it does help substantially when carrying longer lengths of line, I throw less tailing loops, the fly leg of the line throws straighter, my loops tighten. But what is the physics...
