Re: Flexi-Stripper

Small bloody world. Peter, yeah they look handy and line management is an unglamorous subject close to my breaking point. Lars, forgive me but I only read the first few paragraphs and didn't get down to the author credits. :D Here's the small world story. I'm locked down in Melbourne, time isn't sho...

Re: Fly line hinging/cracking

For light outfits polyleaders are a good option. Loop (to loop) up top and tippet ring down below. Durable, adaptable and not too sticky in the guides.

Despite claims of stuff like this being circus casting, here as demonstrated is a very safe and viable solution to a tricky problem.
Elegant solution to the problem Lee. Nicely done.

Re: “Whoosh” and other sensations

Thanks for positive feedback Dirk. Glad it offered you something. Yes the effort by Lasse off his left side is remarkable and a tribute to his technique off the dominant side. Ambition to follow suit is not to be sneezed at. :D I love the conjunction of art and science. In casting Grace is their lov...

Re: Line Twist and the Parallel Universe

So, when you have accumulated a lot of line twist and it doesn't disappear when shooting the line to the reel, what do you do? Hi Johnny While I practice single hand spey often and belgium type casts occasionally, I get some twist but not huge amounts. I try not to let it build up and I manage it i...

Re: “Whoosh” and other sensations

Hi Dirk I've thought about learning to cast on my non dominant right side but have never made a sustained effort to do it probably because backhand takes care of that stuff well enough. Good on you for trying. Not sure what level of proficiency you are aiming for but a few thoughts based on my readi...

Re: Magnifier and lamp

I'm considering to buy some magnifier that can be mounted to a table to avoid focusing problem. Does anybody use it for fly tying? Any recommendations on brand/model? And most importantly does it work as advertised? Hi Alex Yes, I use one and have done for 10+ years when tying at home. Some folks c...

Re: Setting the hook… or not?

Hi Ken I fish impoundments a lot. Like so many things in fly fishing there are no simple rules, some general rules and quite a lot of exceptions. How I set the hook depends on circumstances. The general rule is to move the rod and set the hook in a direction opposing the direction the fish is moving...
