Hi John
Thanks a lot for your kind comment. I'm glad to see that modeling can give good information (sometimes).

Re: Evaluating the Haul
Thanks to Gordy’s database about Henry’s back cast, it is possible to compute some ratios to evaluate « efficiency » and “effectiveness ». “effectiveness”: hauling distance is about 1.8 m within some 0.2 s and hauling speed is around 14 m/s “efficiency”: I took the middle of the cork as the referenc...

Re: Hauling - pulling fly line through the guides
Put another way, if the haul is exhausted prior to the maximum rod tip speed, the haul is adding nothing to the line speed. Hi Graeme A haul, even if exhausted before maximum tip speed, generates more speed thanks to the extra energy stored into the rod which is due to the extra force created by th...

Re: Evaluating the Haul
Let’s come back to Henry’s BC and give some insight. Henry.JPG Speed patterns Henry speeds.JPG It is interesting to note that the line hand begins by following the stripper guide with no haul speed generated during this « passive » period of time. Haul speed begins to rise as the line hand is stoppi...

Re: Evaluating the Haul
Gordy I copied a comment from you in the thread about measuring haul: Regardless of the technique I would think measurements would show that incorporating a line hand haul path that opposed the direction of the stripper guide path would produce higher haul speeds since the stripper guide speed is so...

Re: Rod tracking and accuracy
Hi Vince
That means that the butt section had no significant spine effect. The whirling is relatively rare, only one of my (about 20) rods does show such problem.

Hi Torsten
Funny, I checked the tackle section this morning but did not see the change.

Rod tracking and accuracy
I guess Paul decided to drop the thread on the new rod supposed to be 4 times more accurate than its predecessor. One can use any rod and get accuracy from training, even if the tool is imperfect, the caster can accommodate with practice. However, one can detect a better tool quickly when he tests i...

Re: Evaluating the Haul
Gordy The drawback of using a passive component during the haul (stripper guide motion), is the lack of control of the difference in timings between rod motion and arm motion. This is the case for the BC for example, where making a late haul with line hand corresponds to a loss in hauling speed. I d...

Re: Evaluating the Haul
Hi Walter If one can make a haul always in line with rod axis, then there is no more passive haul in a BC and the "efficiency" is 100 % By that I mean that maximum haul speed corresponds to maximum hand speed. This is not the case in my FC scenario. To get 6 m/s for maximum haul speed I ne...
