Re: SLP
The interesting part is the middle section, which is usually flat and close to SLP for better casters/loops. I'd think caster A had a more efficient path. You want to maximize this section, because the downward curves contribute less to the overall momentum of the fly leg. Hi Torsten. Efficiency as...

Re: Rod unloading during acceleration
Peak haul velocity is just after MAV which is fine, Paul. Merlin Why do you want peak haul to be that close to MAV Daniel? Nils Hi Nils I know Merlin responded already to your question. If you or others have not seen it, Merlin provides a more detailed explanation in post #36 of this thread https:/...

Re: Stop and SLP discussion
What is more common George, is people wanting to improve casting at night. Unless you use a lumiline, this is highly dependent on good proprioception and kinaesthetic awareness. This is why I ask, Mark. For a few years while learning to fly cast almost all my fishing was at night. The end result wa...

Re: Stop and SLP discussion
I might have become temporarily transported to a mysterious part of the meta verse John 😂….are you and Nils seriously suggesting that that is appropriate in a lesson for beginners and recreational anglers ? Hi Mark If you were to train a blind person to cast how would you go about it? Would you dis...

Re: failure to make a proper lift
I'm reading an older SL post on 'back, casting.' One of the faults mentioned was this, as it pertained to 'to large a casting arc.' This is the first time I've come across this phrase, I'd be guessing as to the exact definition and application. Thoughts? Lou Hi Lou Are you asking about “lift” itself...

Re: SLP
It strikes me that a SLP is different than a straight tip path. There is a lot of line behind the tip that needs to be considered as well. Line position and straightness at the moment power is applied along a straight tip path also matter (although I think using a waypoint can get around this to som...

Re: Stop and SLP discussion
Thereafter it is adding unhelpful momentum away from the target. I disagree that it's unhelpful: It's adding tension to the rod leg, which is helpful. Cheers, Graeme Hi Graeme Good point (although a complex one). I should have left "unhelpful" out. Thanks for making me think. With regards...

Re: Stop and SLP discussion
I don’t see the stop as a rapid acceleration, more of a deviation from the intended direction of the cast. Vince I think so as well, Vince. It is the point where application of positive torque crosses from being productive to counter productive. Thereafter application of torque in an opposite direc...

Re: Under estimating translational movement
Hi Phil, I don’t think that the primary objective of the casting stroke is to generate speed. I think that is the secondary objective. The primary one as I see it is to shape the loop. Cheers, Paul Hi Paul Thanks for that perspective. I needed it. Taking the discussion away from distance can you of...
